Probably J MacLellan Brown, city architect, 1941. Row of 2 shops and a public house, the latter with unaltered interior by Messrs Ostler. ELEVATION TO CLEPINGTON ROAD: single storey with channelled ashlar angles, cornice and stepped blocking course. Shopfronts of Nos 92 and 94 altered. Public House, Nos 96-8, has original tiled front. End doors with bowed fluted lintels flanking 3-light horizontal window with margined glazing bars. Original signage over.
REAR: rendered. Catslide projections and later flat-roofed extension to no 94. Piended red tiled roof with two stacks in rear slope.
INTERIOR of Public House: layout of bar, lounge and bottle and jug unaltered. 3/4 height panelling throughout, curved ends to partitions. Coloured glass windows to lavatory doors and lounge, an ouside window advertising Benard's Edinburgh Ales. Bar gantry has original woodwork, lights and etched and enamelled mirrors (one with RAF plane). Built-in pre-decimal cash register. Tiled fireplace. Linoleum floors, terrazzo entrances. No 92 retains original chemist shop fittings.
Listed for the quality, internal and external, of the public house, held by McMaster to be one of the four best surviving post-war pubs in Scotland.
