Description

Late 18th century. 4-storey and attic, 2-bay commercial building. Painted ashlar, altered slate-hung roof. Cill band to 2nd floor, wallhead course; 2-pane timber sash and case windows (modern out-of-character frame to 1st floor right), architraved to 1st floor, margined to 2nd and 3rd.

FRONT ELEVATION: modern shopfront to ground floor, 2 windows to 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors, 2 recessed dormers in Mansard roof.

INTERIOR: not seen.

Statement of Interest

Crichton Street was the first of a series of streets opened from High Street to the Tay from 1779. This building, which seems to be the remnant of a larger building partly demolished to make way for nos 23-29 appears to date from that time, and is listed because of this despite its altered state.
