Charles Ower, 1864-5, extended to E circa 1880-90. Single-storey brick and timber-clad transit shed on the W side of Camperdown Dock.
E, DOCK, ELEVATION: 13-bay cast iron pilastrade with lion rainwater heads and malleable iron girder lintel to timber sliding doors the full length of the wall.
W ELEVATION: brick with ashlar eaves course and rusticated quoins and door-surrounds. Timber sliding doors with malleable iron or steel lintels.
S ELEVATION: brick-built with rusticated quoins. 2 gables, the E (1865) advanced with large off-centre sliding door. Gable to W, central sliding door, wide segmental arched window over.
N ELEVATION: gable to W similar to S elevation, gable to E boarded where link to sheds on N side of Dock and passage for railway has been demolished.
Slate M-roof, that over E shet altered to corrugated sheeting.
INTERIOR: 2 spacious aisles divided by cast iron columns and malleable iron or steel girders, E wrought-iron polonceau truss with cast-iron struts, W wrought-iron or steel tension rods and angle-irons
The E part is the oldest surviving transit shed in Dundee. Camperdown Dock was built between 1857 and 1865 from the old Eastern tidal harbour.
