Mid 18th century. 3-storey, 3-bay tenement. Sandstone rubble
harled and contrasting painted cement margins, cill and
lintel courses. Regular fenestration 12-pane glazing pattern;
shutters remain. Entrance by close to N. Pantiled piended
roof; ridge tiles and slate eaves easing course; rendered
stack.
Projecting stair tower rear with pentice roof; single storey
extension.
Birthplace of naturalist John Muir (1838-1914). Recently
restored, modern shop front removed, 1st floor reinstated,
Muir Museum on 2nd floor. One of group of 3, 3-storey piended
roof tenements in NW quarter of High Street.
