17th century to early 18th century with later alterations.
3-storey house, L-plan. 2-storey extension, 18th century to
rear E. Wash-house at E end. Red sandstone rubble; bull-nose
rendered and painted at W front, plain rubble to N. Pantiled
roofs.
Set back from High Street at lower level of the medieval
street, stretching back along a narrow rigg. Shop front,
single-storey, flat-roofed, added 1916.
W front originally central door flanked by windows; 2 windows
on 1st and 2nd floor, now altered and obscured by shop front.
Close to S with segmental arched entrance, supported on
timber beams and stone corbels. E rear of main wing with
swept dormer above close bay. Turnpike stair bowing from E
wing of oldest part, corbelled to square above, with roof
swept into adjoining gabled roof.
INTERIOR: rear (E) in disrepair. Thick walls. Some panelled
doors and 2nd floor window shutters (18th century) remaining.
2 large bakehouse ovens, now sealed at rear end.
Probably the oldest house remaining in Dunbar. The present
owners (Hawryluks) possess photographs of house from 19th
century. Rear blocks previously divided as flats, some single
room.
