Description

Early 19th century. 3-storey Georgian tenement with 5 bays grouped towards centre; shop on ground and 1st floor. Finely droved ashlar, painted and channelled at ground; remaining elevations harled. Base course. Broad lintel course to ground floor. Narrow cill course to 1st and 2nd floors. Lintel course at eaves level.

W (SOUTH STREET) ELEVATION: modern shop door at centre flanked by 4 modern plate glass windows. Regular fenestration to 1st and 2nd floors, windows blind in bay to right of centre.

N ELEVATION: 2-bay lop-sided gable, partly visible from High Street. Regular fenestration; larger windows at ground, right window out of line to left.

E (REAR) ELEVATION: right corner broadly chamfered. Door with 6-pane fanlight and window to 1st and 2nd floor to right. Circular stair tower to left, now intercepted by surrounding buildings, with door to N; adjoined to E by modern single-storey block.

S ELEVATION: adjoined to Nos 23 and 25 South Street) see separate listing).

12-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows. Harled skew to left. Irregular base to stack to N, broad mutual stack with Nos 23 and 25 South Street. Grey slates. 2 small rooflights to W pitch. Original rainwater goods; recessed down-pipe to right.
