Description

Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay house with M-gabled block adjoined transversely at rear and further later additions (including former smiddy). E elevation ashlar, remaining elevation squared and snecked rubble. Base, eaves and dividing band courses. Raised margins and angle margins.

E (DALHOUSIE ROAD) ELEVATION: painted consoled and corniced doorpiece at centre, with blocking course; flush panelled door with glazed panels, and letterbox fanlight; "Parkend House" inscribed on lintel. Regular fenestration at ground and 1st floors.

N ELEVATION: window at ground and 1st floors to right. Plaque dated "1927" above ground floor at centre. Slightly recessed elevation of transverse range to right with window at ground and 1st floors, boarded hatch to slate cold store to left, and lean-to porch to right, with door on left return.

S ELEVATION: blank. Lean-to glass-house adjoined at centre.

W ELEVATION: window at ground and 1st floors to right of gable. Full-height brick addition to left and centre, raised from rubble, advanced to S and fenestrated. Brick lean-to (former smiddy) adjoined to W: rubble quoins; window to right to N, door at ground and loft door above to left, with "1901" and 2 flight-holes above, large door flanked by windows to W, and window at ground and above to S.

Plate glass glazing pattern in sash and case windows; some replacement glazing patterns to brick range. Gablet coped skews. Gablehead stacks to N, S and W. Grey slates. Original cans.

Rubble wall, with plaque on N wall inscribed "Peter Davidson 1900 - 1947". Former stable to N: brick with flattened gables; plaque dated "1947" to left to E gablehead.

Statement of Interest

The date plaques were installed by Peter Davidson, a former owner, and relate to dates of significance for him.
