Description

1855-7. Former harbour enclosed by 2 piers, that at W side
of L-plan form. Tooled rubble, laid in near vertical courses
on seaward side of walls and horizontal on inner faces. Wide
quay runs lengths of both harbour arms on inner side of
sea walls. Tooled ashlar bollards.

Statement of Interest

Harbour also called Seatown Harbour. The quality of the

masonry is excellent. Because of silting, the harbour became

disused and was finally (1985-6) infilled as a park.

Inscribed cast-iron plaque (1986) details history of harbour,

replacing similar, but worn, inscribed stone panel.
