Description

William Mackison circa 1853. Detached villa, asymmetrical
2-storey (and basement in fall of ground) with later
single-storey wing on N. Stepped L-plan gabled N front,
advanced 1-window gabled section to left, ground floor
bipartite, with relieving arch, single window 1st floor,
Dunblane vesica window at attic level. Central, gabled
entrance bay, moulded, semi-elliptically arched doorpiece
with panel over, right-hand bay 1-window with dormer head at
first, flat-roofed. W-wing has canted bay of 5 lights. S
front has advanced gabled section to right, canted bay
through all floors, broached from square base,
cavetto-corbelled back to square and gabled with Dunblane
vesica at attic level. Semi-elliptically arched openings
almost throughout with chamfered arrises, some with square
hood-moulds and relieving arches; fanciful barge-boarding at
gables. Slated roofs.
