Rambling composite hydropathic hotel building mainly James
Hamilton, Glasgow c.1860 and 1868. Largely 2-storey attic and
basement L-plan with 4-storey balustraded tower in angle,
mixed late classic and Romanesque of Alexander Thomson
school. NE wing 4-window with segment-head masonry dormers,
advanced gabled section on E. with 3 arched 1st floor windows
over canted bay, round-arched squat column porch with steps
in angle, SW wing asymmetrical Italianate with lower-pitched
roofs, ground floor canted bay and octagonal corner bay
features on E. front towards court, low near-symmetrical
buildings at S end, twin 2-window gables with recessed link,
central octagon with circular openings, qoined angles
and raised channelled
voussoirs. Interesting gatepiers of Alexander Thomson type on
W, widely spaced plain classic gatepiers on E.
