Style of David Rhind, circa 1865. 3-storey, 5-bay Italianate former bank, with single storey, 2-bay wings slightly set back from main frontage. Squared dark local whinstone with generous use of ornate contrasting ashlar sandstone dressings. Centre entrance under heavy consoled balustraded balcony (fronting lst floor centre window). Corniced ground floor windows; consoled corniced 1st floor fenestration, small 2nd floor windows, all with moulded jambs and plate glass timber sash and case glazing.
Quoins; deep modillioned cornice below blocking course surmounted at intervals by urn and ball finials; corniced end and ridge stacks; slate roof.
INTERIOR: wide stair case with cast-iron barley-sugar twist balusters. Otherwise much altered to accommodate police station.
GARDEN WALLS: rubble and brick walls enclose L-shaped rear garden.
