Description

Circa 1870. 2-storey and attic, symmetrical 5-bay house abutting rear of Castle Street. Rubble, tooled red sandstone ashlar dressings and margins, harled gable to Old Castlegate and rear.

Wide centre entrance with panelled door and side lights filled with coloured glazing; single flanking ground floor window. Regular five-bay 1st floor fenestration with slightly longer windows; canted wallhead dormers in outer bays only. 4-pane glazing in frontage and in regular 2 ground and 2 1st floor gable, all windows timber sash and case.

REAR: doorway, irregular rear fenestration; single canted wallhead dormer and 1 later gabled dormer; 2 later small single storey lean-to additions.

Single coped end stack; slate roof.

2 Castle Lane appears same build as and continuous to 12-16 Castle Street, dated 1879.
