Arthur Hamilton (John Hamilton & Son of Glasgow), 1905. 2-storey and attic, 4-bay Salvation Army Citadel. Coursed red sandstone. Base course.
NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: steps to pilastered entrance to right; broken segmental pediment; timber door; small single window to right; bipartite window at 1st floor. 2 central tripartite windows at ground floor to centre; buttress divides windows, roll-moulded detail at apex; Art Nouveau typography to frieze reads, "The Salvation Army Citadel"; 2 4-light dormers at attic. Single window at ground to advanced bay to outer left; tripartite window aligned above (bay rises through roofline); depressed central section to moulded parapet.
Predominantly 8-pane timber windows. Grey slate roof; ridge and wallhead coped stacks; circular cans.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
Stands adjacent to the former Unionist Club, 2, 4 New Road and 1 Weaver Street, and opposite the earlier 19th century gusset 1 and 3 New Road (see separate list descriptions). Details such as the buttress, pedimented doorway and lettering are of particular interest.
