Description

J I McDerment, later 19th century. 2-storey, 16-bay terrace of 4-pairs of mirrored 2-bay houses. Painted ashlar (channelled at ground floor projections). Base course; 1st floor cill course; eaves course; cornice.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central, corniced 3-column, block-pedimented entrance porches to each pair (individual porches to Nos 22 and 24); timber doors; letterbox fanlights; single windows aligned above at 1st floor. Advanced pedimented outer bays; regular tripartite fenestration at both floors.

Plate glass and 4-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; stone skews; rooflights; coped gablehead and ridge stacks; circular and polygonal cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

GATEPIERS, GATES, RAILINGS AND BOUNDARY WALL: ball-finialled iron gatepiers, iron gates, railings and low coped boundary wall enclose site.

Statement of Interest

Miller Place (as it was originally named, after Provost Hugh Miller) was laid out as a turnpike road in 1846, but houses were not erected until the 1850s/1860s.
