Description

J and HV Eaglesham, 1894. 3-storey and attic, 3-bay terraced tenement with commercial premises at ground floor. Red ashlar. Shopfront cornice; string moulding to frieze between 1st and 2nd floors (upper section forms 2nd floor cill course); cornice; parapet. Columns delineate 1st floor central openings; strip pilasters frame outer margins of remaining openings at upper floors, rising through to parapet; consoled, balustraded balcony to central bay at 2nd floor

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: off-centre timber door; 2 glazed entrance doors to shop to left, letterbox fanlights, shop windows flanking; 2-leaf glazed timber door to shop to right, flanking shop windows. Regular fenestration at 1st and 2nd floors (tripartite windows to bay to left, bipartite windows to bay to right; quadripartite windows to central bay). 4 dormers at attic; 3-light to outer left; remaining 2-light. Dominant banded wallhead stacks flank central bay.

Shop windows at ground floor; plate glass timber sash and case windows at upper floors; modern glazing at attic. Grey slate roof; stone skews; corniced wallhead and gablehead stacks; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

With 1-7 (Odd Nos) and 9-15 (Odd Nos) Burns Statue Square, 17-23 (Odd Nos) continues a dominant grouping of red ashlar late 19th century/early 20th century architecture.
