Description

J McDerment, 1868-9. Single storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan classical cottage with pedimented Corinthian-columned entrance porch. Squared, rock-faced sandstone to entrance elevation. Base course; wreathed frieze; dentils to blocking course; margins to window openings.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: square-headed opening to entrance porch; glazed timber door; letterbox fanlight; flanking single windows.

S ELEVATION: gabled; lean-to conservatory to ground floor.

E ELEVATION: not seen 1999.

N ELEVATION: gabled; blank.

4-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof; rooflight; stone skews; dentilled, corniced gablehead stacks; polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATES, GATEPIERS, RAILINGS, DRINKING FOUNTAIN AND BOUNDARY WALL: 2-leaf iron gate to left; square-plan gatepiers with ball finials; decorative iron railings atop boundary wall enclosing site; drinking fountain set in wall to right.

Statement of Interest

Important for its siting, next to the Burns Monument (see separate list description). Of particular note is the elaborate entrance porch and decorative iron railings. Lean-to greenhouse attached to outer right of main house.
