Clarke & Bell, 1849. 2-storey, 3-bay (main house) with single storey wing. Stugged rubble. Central moulded string course. Square-headed, chamfered window openings.
SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: columned entrance porch to central gabled bay; modillion cornice; glazed timber door; single window aligned above at 1st floor. Single windows at ground and 1st floor to advanced gable to outer left. Single windows at ground and 1st floor to bay to right (1st floor window breaks eaves to form gablet; single window to re-entrant angle to left. 2 single windows and glazed timber door with letterbox fanlight to single storey section to right; further 8-bay single storey garage section to outer right adjoining.
NW (ALLOWAY) ELEVATION: 2-bay. Single windows at ground and 1st floor to gabled bay to left; bipartite windows at ground and 1st floor to bay to right (1st floor window breaks eaves to form gablet; finial to gable apex).
SE AND NE ELEVATIONS: not seen 1999.
Predominantly plate glass timber sash and case windows. Slate roof; overlapping slab stone skews; skewputts; corniced gablehead and pitch stacks; circular and polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
GATEPIERS, GATES AND BOUNDARY WALL: stone gatepiers to pedestrian and vehicular entrances; iron gate to pedestrian entrance; timber gate to vehicular entrance; coped boundary wall enclosing site.
INTERIOR: not seen 1999.
Good example of mid 19th century architecture, important for its earlier use as a schoolhouse to the adjoining Alloway Public Halls (see separate list description). Notable architectural detailing includes the columned entrance porch and the moulded skewputts.
