Description

Black and Salmon, Architects (Glasgow) 1844. Gothic.
Rectangular plan church with gables to east and west and
elaborate, projecting eastern tower and spire. Polished
yellow sandstone at east, rubble side elevations. Central
door under pointed head at east. Triple light window above,
central light having 2 lancets and trefoil tracery. Shallow
gables to 1st stage of tower with square clock tower rising
from the centre. Clasping buttresses, capped with gabletted
pinnacles at all angles giving lively silhouette. Facetted
spire with 2 tiers of lucarnes on 4 faces. Ship weathervane.
Body of church, 6 bays with pointed arched windows, Y
astragals and window margins. Slate roof.

New Parish Church superseding the old church at Saltcoats.

Cost $3,000 1889, alterations by James Ritchie 1909 Font

and communication table P Macgregor Chalmers.

Ecclesiastical building in use as such.
