Circa 1900. 3-storey turretted and gabled hotel with
renaissance ornament, occupying gushet site. Red ashlar with
band courses, most windows with stone transomes. Narrow S end
with turretted full-height octagonal corner bays flanking
main entrance, latter with curved and columned porch with
Jacobean columned 1st floor balcony over, shaped wall-head
gable with flanking stacks. 3 elevation to St John's Road
symmetrical with turretted outer bays, shallow advanced wide
inner bay with shaped gable, intermediate bays with
pedimented wall-head dormers. Slate roofs, steep-pitched and
facetted over turrets.
INTERIOR: original work by Messrs Taylor and Sons, Edinburgh;
some modern alterations.
