Description

1902, James Abernethy, Engineers and Builders, Aberdeen;
James Lawrence, Craigellachie, Contractor. Suspension
footbridge. Cast-iron lattice-girder span supported by wire
rope main cables; end lattice-girder pylons with ball and
spike finials.

Statement of Interest

Constructed to replace ferry after a drowning tragedy in

1901. Also known as the 'Penny Bridge' as the Elchies Estate

charged a penny toll.

James Flemming, banker, distiller and benefactor to

Aberlour who died before the bridge was completed, left $500

towards the cost.

River Spey forms parish boundary with Knockando and line

of bridge boundary between Aberlour Burgh and Parish.
