Appearance suggests a building date in last third of 19th century (possibly 1880s, and possibly not all one build). Sporting lodge, with associated outbuldings including cottage and kennels. Light-coloured harl, slate roofs.
LODGE: 2 storeys, asymmetrical L-plan east (entrance) front with 3-storey square tower positioned (unusually) one bay along from the main entrance which is in the re-rentrant angle. Entrance has timber-bracketted hood, tower has corbelled top courses and shallow-pitched pyramidal roof with tall finial; advanced gable to left (fronting a range slightly lower than the main body of the house) with canted ground floor window, corbelled apex stack, skews with kneeler skewputts (other gables similarly treated); single bay to right of tower, and then a slightly lower 2-bay wing, single storey transversely-set gabled wing beyond. 1st floor windows cut through main eaves level and have jerkin-roofed dormer heads, except that over main door ( which is crow-stepped). Windows sash and case; mostly 4-paned glazing pattern. On south flank, 3 bays at 1st floor, 2 projecting windows at ground. OUTBUILDINGS: Comprises one-and-a-half storeys centre-doored cottage (like a 2-up 2-down DAFS house) with rear wing forming T-plan, wide archway in east flank of wing; also kennels, octagonal, with facetted roof and apex stack, wire-fenced enclosure, as at Grimersta.
Tower faces inland, rather than out to sea. Ardvourlie, another sporting lodge, also has a square tower, while the gable/stack detailing can be parallelled on buildings in Stornoway.
