Mid 18th century. Symmetrical 2-storey, attic and basement house with flanking single storey pavilions linked by quadrant corridors. Harled walling, raised painted margins and angles.
N elevation: steps with wrought-iron handrail over basement to margined doorway, panelled door with fanlight. Flanking door, single light windows. 3 single light windows to 1st of smaller dimensions. All sash and case with 12-pane glazing. Eaves cornice, pair of gabled timber later 19th century dormers.
S elevation: all single light windows. To centre 20th century addition; projecting harled full-heigtht bay, brick built, piended slate roof. Both elevations with moulded eaves cornice, end skews with skewputts. Tall coped end stacks with thackstanes, sandstone ridge, good graded slate roofs.
Pavilions: curving quadrant corridors with moulded eaves cornice and single basememt windows to single storey gabled pavilions, original 3-bay fronts, some alterations especially to rear elevations. Single windows with painted margins, end skews, end coped stacks, good graded slate roofs. Rear of E pavilion with large vehicle entrances.
INTERIOR: most doors and doorcases original, most shutters and some panelling and chimneypieces survive, good quality 18th century work.
