Description

A Stewart Tod, 1924. U-plan courtyard of miners' cottages in plain Scots/classical style. 3 long and low ranges of single storey, 3- and 4-bay cottages with pedimented centrepieces. Harled with painted margins and eaves course.

S (NORTH RANGE) ELEVATION: 14-bay, gabled range of 4 cottages. 2 windows to centre with dominant pediment breaking eaves above, door with flanking windows to right and again to outer bays, these 6 bays mirrored to left of centre. All doors with 2-part fanlight.

W (EAST RANGE) ELEVATION: 8-bay, piended range of 2 cottages, detailed as centre cottages above.

E (WEST RANGE) ELEVATION: mirrors W range.

12-pane glazing pattern, except No 7 with plate glass glazing, in timber sash and case windows. Red pantiles. Coped harled ridge and gablehead stacks; dominant shouldered stacks breaking eaves to N and S of piended ranges. Cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.
