Late 18th century. 2-storey 5-bay classical coach house with single storey lean-to wings. Cream sandstone ashlar frontage, roughly squared and coursed at sides and rear with ashlar dressings. Base course, band course and moulded cornice.
N ELEVATION: 3 centre bays advanced and set under steep pediment with blinded oculus, breaking eaves; arcaded ground floor; windows to each bay at each floor, square at 1st.
S ELEVATION: 3-bay. Boldly pedimented and architraved door at centre; panelled door. Depressed carriage arches flanking, blocked as windows. 3 square 1st floor windows.
Single storey side additions of 2 different dates, comprised of coped walls to N elevation, 1 in rubble, 1 in ashlar, each with windows; modern lean-tos to S. 1st floor windows inserted later in main coach house, breaking eaves in swept dormerheads.
Small-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows; grey slates to piend roof.
The unpretentious dignity of the design could be attributed to the artisan-classical style employed. For further information on St Germains, see St Germains House. B Group with House, Cottage and Dovecot.
