18th century. 2-stage lectern dovecot. Sandstone rubble with droved contrasting dressings; rat course and coped crowsteps. Door to S (cast-iron door) with flight-hole in upper stage; blank sides and rear. Roof currently derelict (1989).
INTERIOR: nesting boxes lining walls to N, E and W, formed of terracotta tiles, on semi-circular corbel course. Cast-iron shelf at lintel level on S wall.
St Clements Wells was formerly a hamlet, where a distillery, which flourished in the 18th century, later became a steading. All that remains of this settlement is the dovecot and a simple stable and hayloft. The terracotta tile nesting boxes are unusual.
