Sir Robert Lorimer, circa 1920.1st World War memorial comprised of tapering shaft set on square pedestal and 2 octagonal flights of steps. Appears to be reconstituted stone (?). 4 recessed rectangular panels on base, with rounded arrises to surround, bearing dedication and names of fallen; chamfered arrises to shaft and 4 national shields below neck; cross finial in circle set on moulded base adorned with
paterae. 2nd World War memorial plaque added at base of shaft.
Mediocre example of Lorimer's work, produced at a time when volume of work replaced quality for many architects. Similar to Humbie War Memorial in design.
