Rebuilt circa 1800. Roughly L-plan group, currently all residential, and sited on corner at road junction, on falling ground. Harl pointed rubble. Originally smithy at corner with very low eaves, steeply pitched roof with early skew form and gablehead stack; small square window to W elevation and flanking doorway breaking eaves; 3-bay building adjoined to S, later addition, with eaves, 3-bay building adjoining to S. Later addition, with former doorway to W at centre blocked as window and with windows flanking; blank return gable elevation to S; end stacks. Piended building to W, adjoined to earliest building and projecting slightly to N with machinery doors. 12-pane glazing pattern to S block. Pantiles.
Modern building placed in re-entrant angle of L-plan. Other similar early smithies in East Lothian may be found at Stenton, Gullane, and Pitcox. The East Saltoun Smithy is prominently placed. A decorative, Glenfield and Kennedy, cast-iron pump lies in re-entrant angle to N.
