Description

18th century. Complex on steeply sloping waterfront site comprising 2-storey 3-bay symmetrical former trader's house with single storey 3-bay symmetrical cottage adjoining N gable, single storey 3-bay symmetrical modern fishhouse to N, piers and slipways

(PRINCIPAL) BUILDING: harled walls.

W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: trader's house at right; lean-to glazed timber porch at ground in centre bay comprising harled base with multi-pane windows, vertically-boarded timber door to N, fish-scale slate-hung sides; narrow 4-pane timber window centred at 1st floor, 12 and 6-pane windows in flanking bays at ground and 1st floors respectively. Lined concrete porch at centre of cottage to left; plate glass windows in flanking bays.

E (REAR) ELEVATION: single vertically-boarded timber door centring elevation of trader's house to left; small window centring elevation of cottage at right.

Timber sash and case windows. Purple-grey slate roofs with concrete skew copes. Harled apex stacks with copes and circular cans to each gable.

SEA WALL, PIER AND SLIPWAYS: low rubble sea wall bounding W side of

S pier (trader's house and cottage), slipway adjoining to N, sea wall extending N to N pier (fishhouse), with ramp and timber derrick at S, and additional slipway to N.

FISHHOUSE: vertically-boarded timber sides over rubble base; wide glazed door centring S gable with 2-pane fixed-light in gablehead; 6-pane fixed-lights in W elevation.

Statement of Interest

The Statutory List in 1977 described the fishhouse as "concrete foundations of wooden fishhouse" suggesting the original structure dated from circa 1900.
