Description

Single-storey symmetrical west front, arched entrance with curvilinear gable and crowstepped flank gables. Rubble and slate.

Statement of Interest

The stables are first shown on the 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map (surveyed 1901). Panbride House was designed by James McLaren for John Dickson. Dickson built the house after he purchased Panbride Bleachfields for £4220 in 1851 (Dumfries and Galloway Standard, 2 July 1851). The bleachfields, for the bleaching of flax yarn, were built in 1841 by Lord Panmure. Panbride House was completed in 1856. Dickson may have commissioned the stables shortly after the house was completed or later when he was extending the house. An advert for a coachman in the Dundee Advertiser of 13 March 1896 suggests that the stables has been built by this date.
