N ELEVATION: 3 widely spaced bays; doorway at centre with shallow painted pediment lintel; panelled door with small-pane fanlight.

Windows in flanking bays and to each bay at 1st floor. Small attic window on W elevation. Additional bay to outer left with door and window, adjoining schoolhouse with neighbouring property. Throughburn. Later school room adjoined to right. Additions to rear elevation.

12-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows. Steeply pitched gables; ashlar coped skews and generous end stacks. Grey slates.

Statement of Interest

The Old Schoolhouse formerly served as school and schoolmaster's house until the adjoining schoolroom was built. It provides an excellent example of the calibre of houses intended by John Cockburn's plan for the village.
