Description

Probably early 19th century. Coursed red sandstone
bridge, stugged and droved stone. Spanning banks of
differing heights and with parapet. Voussoired
semi-circular arch to N spanning Whittingehame Water,
and flanked to S by diminutive dry, overflow arch.
Raised panels flanking each arch, with semi-circular
niches and impost bands. Parapet of coursed stone
broken at regular intervals by short dies.

Statement of Interest

Sited near Lady Eleanor's Cottage, and here referred to

simply as Whittingehame Bridge because of its proximity to

the former village, and to distinguish it from the East

Bridge, and Lime Tree Avenue Bridge. The main arch spans

approximately 39'.
