Late 18th century, 2-storey, 3-bay gable-ended
farmhouse, doubled in size in earlier 19th century by
piend-roofed, 2-storey addition. Rubble whinstone with
ashlar dressings.
ORIGINAL HOUSE: symmetrical 3-bay frontage with late 19th
century piended porch added; panelled door with small-pane
fanlight. Windows in flanking bays to both
floors and to 1st floor at centre, grouped towards centre.
2-bay gabled elevations and windows to both floors to
NW.
LATER ADDITION: adjoined to NE of earlier house, equally
wide and 2-bays deep, but with slightly lower eaves.
Blank rear elevation with 1 1st floor window single
storey, piend-roofed addition flat-roofed modern porch.
Irregular window sizes, with 1 ground floor window
altered to timber mullioned bipartite on NE. 12-pane sash
and case windows. Slate roofs. Coped skews and gable
wallhead stacks.
The ruins of the grange of Penshiel lie to W. Whiteadder
Reservoir was created in the valleu to N. Splendidly sited
for views of the Lammermuirs.
