The pedimented surround to window in bay to right at 1st floor is said to have originated from the Archbishop Spottiswoode's house in Glasgow. "It was brought hither when that house passed into other hands... It now forms the pediment of a window in the lodge-house of Spottiswoode" (p72). Whether any of the fabric of the existing house is still present or whether the house was rebuilt entirely, with the pediment re-used, is not known.
