storey, 5-bay Classical house with single storey flanking
wings, all on raised basement. Alterations by Barbour and
Bowie circa 1911. Droved red sandstone ashlar with polished
dressings. South elevation: steps to Ionic-columned and
pedimented portico, depressed-arched doorway, panelled door
with fanlight. Sash windows in architraves (corniced at
ground floor), all originally 12-panes, ground floor lower
sashes now 2-pane. Blind boxes to windows on front elevation.
Base course; eaves course; cornice; blocking course; corniced
end stacks with stone flues. Piended wings each 2 bays (3-bay
end elevations), outer bays advanced, blind tripartite at
left; right wing altered, linking bay added/rebuilt circa
1910. All roofs slated. House has round-headed central stair
window and 12-pane sashes to north elevation. Interior: some
good Classical features. Friezes, cornices and ceiling
plasterwork; chimney pieces; panelled doors in architraves;
cantilevered stair with simple wrought-iron work. Pilastered
screen in hall with acanthus leaf capitals. South facing
ground floor rooms especially decorative, arched recess in
sitting room with elaborate pilasters and guilloche pattern
to intrados.
2 square, channelled (painted) ashlar gatepiers, corniced,
with raised and curved caps.
