Castle Douglas - Dumfries railway opened 7.11.1859. Large
railway viaduct, spanning wide valley. 18 round arches on
battered piers. Channelled, bullfaced red ashlar with
pilaster strips at intervals carried upwards as pedestrian
refuges, string below coped parapet.
Line closed 14.6.1965. Railway by John Miller Jr., engineer.
