Description

Fragmentary remains of Tongland Abbey, said to be a 12th
century foundation. The existing structure consists of the W
gable complete to wallhead with square stone belfry and part
of the N and S side walls; these have been considerably
altered in post-reformation times to form the old Parish
Church. There is a richly moulded round-headed doorway to the
N wall (considerably restored) with dog-tooth moulding,
thought to be a 17th century imitation of medieval work.
