A Thomson, Eanan Brewery architect plans dated 1886-7.
Asymmetrical picturesque country villa with considerable
20th-century demolition of rear (service) wings, but with
unexpectedly lavish interior. 2-storeys and attic, coursed
rubble walling, polished sandstone dressings.
Windows mainly bi-or tripartite single light to attic. All
sash and case with plate glass glazing.
Entrance elevation: to centre shallow projecting 3-storey
square tower, timber gabled porch, corbelled eaves cornice,
steep facetted slate roof. To right, gabled bay with square
projecting 2-storey window. To left single storey projecting
square window to ground, blind 1st floor with deeply
overhanging eaves and steeply pitched roofs.
Garden elevation: long asymmetrical front with gabled bay to
left; good timber and glass conservatory to right; modern
hexagonal glazed projection to far right containing
swimming-pool.
Rear elevation: M and trucated mansard roofed projecting
wings, formerly providing service courtyard, this now reduced
to single storey.
Tall corniced stacks with octagonal cans, slate roofs.
Decorative barley-sugar twist cast-iron downpipes.
Interior: very high quality carved chimneypieces to drawing
and dining rooms, built-in display cupboards. Elaborate dado
panelling of papier-mache to resemble plasterwork. Good
strapwork ceiling to drawing room. Good panelled doors
throughout with intricate brass door furniture.
