Early 19th century with later alterations. Altered. Terraced row of 5 plain 2-storey, 3-bay salters' and colliers' houses forming uniform design. Roughly coursed rubble (formerly harled) with painted stone margins.
NW (MAIN STREET) ELEVATION:
NOS 2 AND 4: each centre bay with window (altered from door), window in bay to right and later bipartite window to left, regular fenestration to 1st floor but centre bay breaking eaves into steeply-pedimented dormerhead, and left bay breaking eaves into low eyelid dormerhead.
NOS 6 TO 20: each centre bay with panelled timber door and small adjacent window to right, window in bay to right and later bipartite to left, regular fenestration to 1st floor.
All windows blinded temporarily for protection. Pantiles. Coped harled stacks with cans, and ashlar-coped skews.
Property of Wemyss Properties Ltd. No 20 adjoins West Wemyss Tolbooth (listed separately). At the time of resurvey (1998), Wemyss Properties and Fife Historic Buildings Trust plan to restore this fine traditional streetscape. The street form continues in 22-36 Main Street, listed separately.
