Description

1860. 10 arch railway viaduct. Bull faced rubble piers and ashlar coped buttresses below large square blocks, piers taper toward springing point. Semicircular arches give way to flat coped parapet. Cast iron ties under each arch.

Statement of Interest

Proposals for a branch line from Markinch to Leslie were published in 1856. The Earl of Rothes objected to the line crossing his land resulting in the necessity to cross the River Leven at 2 points, here at Balbirnie and at Cabbagehall, Leslie.
