Description

William and Andrew Clerk (?) 1801. Gothick. Rectangular plan,
harled with margins piend roof; original glazing; 2-window
E. and W. with centre circular window and doorway; W.
frontage has superior finish with pilastered centre mullions.
4-window S. frontage, centre w slightly advanced with gable
quatrefoil and bellcote dating from repairs of 1840, John
Smith, architect. Session room dated 1884 in style of
original. Interior: originally U-plan with central pulpit.
Remodelled with W. gallery (original R-doric columns and
gallery front re-used) G. Bennet Mitchell 1932. Wood ceiling
with cavetto cornice. Mowat Bell 1735.

Statement of Interest

Ecclesiastical building in use as such. Detail closely

similar to Parish Church of Echt. The Clerks are known

to have designed the Old Parish Church at Crathie (memorial

stone inscription) whose main frontage reproduced the

S. front of Skene in design if not scale. The doors were in the

gables as at Skene but there were no flanking windows.
