West wing: circa 1700 (fine moulded chimneypiece in centre attic
room) 2-storey and dormerless attic 5-window, centre gablet
with arched attic window, moulded skew ends, centre 2-column
Roman-Doric open portico with wood entablature c 1840. NE and
SE wings forming U-plan, mid 18th century.
Interior entirely remodelled circa 1830/40 retaining only late
18th century 1st floor drawing-room (now bedroom) and original
stair to attic, new staircase in SE wing, low 1st floor gallery
corridor and other additions inserted in court. Harled with
margins. 17th century armorial panel in SE wing, probably not
in its original position.
Note: The date 1604 is frequently given for this house, that
being the date when James VI and I granted Muiresk and Kinnermit
to Francis Earl of Errol. But the charter preserved within the
house makes it quite clear that there was already a house on
the property at that date. The present house was built by the
Brodies. Some work was probably done on it after Alexander
Dirom became proprietor, in 1767, the c 1830-40 remodelling was
done for James Brodie Spottiswoode
