17th and 18th century, reconstructed Archibald Simpson c.
1836-39 as symmetrical neo-Jacobean mansion of 3-storeys with
2-storey advance pavilions and centre porch to S.W.
Reconstructed 1934-7 W.L. Duncan to requirements of Lady
Doris Duff, top storey of main block removed, Simpson's
balancing S.E. pavilion and porch demolished, main staircase
removed, new N.W. entrance and neo-Georgian main staircase at
entrance hall. Good Simpson woodwork and some earlier chimneypieces. interior otherwise much altered, interest now chiefly confined to
W. pavilion. Dated 1625, datestone not in original position, roof remodelled and angle turrets raised by Simpson: Very fine
balustraded external stair to 1st floor, ground floor vaulted. Rubble-built with cherry cocking.
Note: at the S.W. front a dismantled 17th century lectern
sundial with a fine damaged openwork baluster; base missing.
