John Kinross, dated 1900. 2-storey range of 6 2-bay houses
with nos 1 and 8 in advanced gabled outer wings, formerly
bothy (N) and laundry (S). Mixed random rubble, contrasting
finely tooled and polished ashlar dressings. Paired doorways
in centre block, each with simple ornamentation and
roll-moulding to doorpiece, flanked by 4-light window, each
window with thicker centre mullion. Similar entrances in N
and S gables, serving nos 1 and 8, at no 1 with monogrammed
plaque above. 6 gabled wallhead dormers, each with windows
similar to ground floor. Outer bays with pair hoodmoulded
4-light windows at no 1 and off-centre hoodmoulded and
heavily labelled tripartite in ground floor of no 8 with
carved detailing to 1st floor window lintel. Regular rear
elevation; datestone in rear gable of no 8. Original leaded
quarries to casement windows, though some re-glazing in rear
of no 8 (former laundry). Substantial stacks with moulded
copes rise through roof at rear and at wallheads of outer
wings; stone slate roofs.
INTERIOR: spacious rooms; simple wooden balusters to
staircases; shaped corbels support joisted ceilings in ground
floor front rooms; wrought-iron heart-shaped window
fastenings; no 7 has original enamelled open hearth/cooker.
