Description

1770-80. Large rectangular walled garden on S facing sloping
site. Rubble walls, lined with brick at S aspect of N wall,
tooled ashlar cope, polished ashlar dressings. Wide
pedimented projecting 5-bay garden room or orangery with
curved angles sited in middle of N wall. Doorway with radial
fanlight and flanking windows, further window in each bowed
angle; multi-pane glazing. S aspect of garden room formed by
2 wide segmental-headed arches; original roof missing.
Wide round-headed and keystoned arched entrance in centre of
S wall of garden.
Later 2-storey, 3-bay house, part brick, part harled,
incorporated in N wall with windows opening to it, 2- and
4-pane glazing. 2 later dormers; brick end and wallhead
stacks; slate roof.
Approximate measurements. 73 x 117 yds (66 x 107m)
wall height - 20' (6m)

Unusual porch/garden room/orangery. Garden no longer

cultivated.
