Dated 1759, probably incorporating earlier fabric. 2-storey,
3-bay S facing house with long single storey wing at right
angles abutting W gable. Harled. Centre door masked by modern
glazed sun porch. Regular fenestration front and rear with
surviving grill seatings in ground floor jambs, lower 1st
floor windows. Rear elevation with windows in outer bays and
centre stair window; diminutive centre attic light in each
gable; 4-pane glazing. End stacks; slate roofs.
INTERIOR: wide curved stone staircase, the treads probably
re-used. No other original features survive.
Thornybank was the property of Hay of Rannas until purchased
by Gordon of Cairnfield during 18th century.
