Description

Early 19th century mill range with early/mid 19th century

miller's house abutting SE gable of mill, all on SW sloping site fronting Forss Water. Mill; 3-storey, 6-bay SW front with 2-storey addition to NW gable projecting ar rear. Harl pointed rubble.

Off-centre door; reasonably regular fenestration, with some windows blocked. Shuttering or 12-pane glazing; piended Caithness slate roof.

Mill lade runs close in front of building serving overshot wheel

at west end of mill.

Miller's house; set back from SE gable of mill with entrance in small porch in re-entrant; 2-storey, asymmetrical 3 bays; thin rubble flagstone, with polished flagstone dressings and margins. Slightly advanced gable right bay with single ground floor centre window,

2 1st floor windows and apex stack. 2 further 1st floor windows break eaves in gabletted dormers. Single storey extension at right gable

with loft door in gable centre (at ground floor level owing to slope

of site) and rear wall of large single stone slabs. Ridge stack; Caithness slate roof.

Statement of Interest

Miller's House has served as Post Office and 1 ground floor

window fitted with small posting box.
