Description

Mid 19th century. Single storey and attic cottage, adjoined to

earlier 19th century single storey cottage. Both 3-bay and

right at road-side. Red rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings.

EARLIER COTTAGE: timber columned, gabled porch at centre with

finial, flanked by windows. Steeply pitched roof.

LATER COTTAGE: consoled open, pedimented canopy to door at

centre, flanked by windows at ground and gabled dormerheads

to attic windows breaking eaves. Diamond-pane glazing pattern to casement windows. Grey slates; coped gable end stacks to higher

cottage with moulded corbelling at gablehead; gablet skews with

consoled skewputts and stone finials.

Rubble-garden walls adjoined to N and W angles by road.

Similar in detail to neighbouring cottage, Ivybank.

Formerly named Lowood and Canongate.
