Mid 19th century. Red rubble sandstone. Single storey and
attic cottages, an L-plan trio and an L-plan single cottage.
L-PLAN TRIO: 2 2-bay cottages to S; each with doorway to left
fanlit boarded doors and stone bracketted, penticed slab porches;
stone mullioned bipartite to right, with attic windows breaking
eaves in gabled dormerheads; bays of right cottage grouped more
widely. Blank N and S gables. Single cottage forms E wing at S,
detailed as above. Each cottage with one single window to rear. Small-pane glazing pattern and grey slate; gable end and mutual
gable stacks; crowstepped gables.
L-PLAN COTTAGE: chamfered arrises to openings at front. 3-bay
to E with stone bracketted pentice slab porch to door at centre,
flanked by windows. 2 decoratively detailed timber dormers to
outer bays. Lower rear wing to S, with 2 pointed arched windows
at centre flanked by pointed arched doors on S elevation.
4-pane and plate glass glazing; grey slates and gable end
stacks; saw-tooth ashlar skews with consoled, gablet skewputts. Evidently incorporating earlier cottage.
Similar in form to cottages at Tyninghame, possibly built by
the Hannans and Henderson, who worked there and on Spott manse;
the designs possibly came from Burn's office.
