Circa 1840. Small rectangular plan, Tudor stule gate lodge
with later additions at rear. Stugged pink coursed
sandstone with ashlar dressings; base course, chamfered
reveals. Symmetrical 3-bay S elevation to drive with
gabled porch, above 4-centred doorway; lancets to porch
sides and studded panelled door; bipartite windows
flanking. Gabled E and W elevations with canted 4-light
bay with parapet to W gable, single window to E, and
both with blind arrow slits at apex. Piend roofed
sympathetic rear addition to right of N elevation, and
modern additions set in re-entrant angle, encroaching
slightly on E gable. Gablet coping to ashlar parapets and
skewputts. 4-centred windows, with diamond-pane
glazing to those in canted bay. Purple slates.
GATEPIERS: square, stugged pink sandstone gatepiers with
chamfered corners and pyramidal caps.
Listed B despite modern additions, for Tudor details and
as fanfare to Biel House. Similar form found in Dirleton
village as part of Lady Elgin's "beautifications".
