Later 18th century with early 19th century additions. 2-storey
and attic classically detailed 3-bay mansion. Warm coloured
rubble with ashlar dressings.
S ELEVATION: 3-bay, 2-storey house at centre, with moulded
cornice, linked by recessed single storey bays to taller,
square plan, piend-roofed, pavilion stable blocks, 1 with
hayloft. Centre bay slightly advanced and pedimented with
blind oculus in rope-moulded surround and urn finial;
architraved and corniced doorway at centre; decorative
fanlight; window at 1st floor above, and to both floors in
flanking bays.
N ELEVATION: pink harling. Single storey piend-roofed
projection at centre, with windows on W return, door and
window to E; modern conservatory roof clasping ridge line.
Window to each floor in outer bays, with flat-roofed modern
dormer windows above. Lean-to linking bays with irregular
openings; garage door inserted in W pavilion.
W ELEVATION: window at centre to each floor; small attic
window. Linking bay adjoined to outer left.
E ELEVATION: ground floor window near centre, linking block
adjoins to right; small wheel-glazed oculus at centre to
1st floor, with windows flanking widely in outer bays, that
to right being blinded; small attic window.
12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows. Gable end
ashlar stacks; ashlar coped skews. Grey slates.
OUTBUILDING: square plan piend-roofed garden outbuilding
to NW, of similar date to pavilions, with carriage entrance
and hayloft above. Later, lower addition to S.
DOVECOT: lean-to rubble dovecot in poor condition, sited to
N of house, and with adjoining later additions. Ashlar coped
skews, grey slates. Doorway to S.
RETAINING AND QUADRANT WALLS AND GATEPIERS: low semi-circular,
ashlar coped drive retaining wall by principal S elevation.
Similarly detailed quadrants flanking corniced, simple,
ashlar gatepiers to E driveway.
The dovecot was formerly listed separately. The Cottage,
which is probably sited where a further outbuilding stood,
in a mirrored position, is listed separately. Later variant
on the 3-bay design can be found at Forbes Lodge, Gifford,
listed separately.
